Jr. Midget Cheer Coach – Glenda Lopez Head Jr. Pee Wee Cheer Coach - Stephanie Solomon Head Mighty Mite Cheer Coach - Wandah McKinney Head Flag Cheer Coach - Vacant Rancho San Diego Norsemen Pop Warner 2008 Cheer Parent Volunteer Roles Head Coach · Leads the squad through conditioning, practices and games, with the primary focus of creating a fun, positive experience that teaches fundamental skills and builds a positive spirit of competition. · Serves as the primary point of contact and communication for the squad with the Rancho San Diego Pop Warner Cheer Director. Cascades appropriate information to squad parents in a timely manner. · Ensures squad and coaches comply with all Pop Warner and Rancho San Diego Association rules and regulations. · Attends all required clinics and training and will maintain current CPR and First Aid Certifications. · Has primary accountability for squad safety. · Teaches the basics of cheer to squad members and uses positive reinforcement as the primary means for improving skills. · Leads by example in terms of leadership and sportsmanship. · Leads all conditioning and practices according to the guidelines established by the Cheer Director. · Ensures coverage for all games and practices with appropriate qualified and badged coaches, volunteers, etc. · Identifies and leverages all available resources to provide the best training for the squad including use of student trainers, gymnastics experts, Assistant Coaches, etc. · Works with the Assistant Coach(es) to determine the approach for squad training. Alternatives include teaching skills to the group as a whole or breaking the squad into smaller units (such as Stunt Groups). Assistant Coaches and Student Trainers may then be designated to teach general or specialized skills, depending on their background and interests. · Prepares the squad for any post-season competitions, with appropriate participation and oversight by the Cheer Director. Assistant Coach · Works in cooperation with the Head Coach to ensure compliance with Pop Warner and Rancho San Diego Association rules and regulations. · Attends all required clinics and training and will maintain current CPR and First Aid Certifications. · Serves in the lead/head role for practices or games in the absence of or at the request of the Head Coach. · Assists with conditioning, practices and teach the basics of cheer to squad members in a role mutually determined with the Head Coach and other Assistant Coaches. · Works with the Head Coach on schedules and coverage for practices and games, based on desired level of participation by the Assistant Coach. Student Trainer · Works as a trainer and demonstrator at practices for one or more cheer squads. · Teaches proper techniques and stresses safety in all aspects of cheer – stunting, jumping, tumbling, motions, dancing, etc. · Serves as the “expert” on and teaches current cheers and routines from the Valhalla High School program. · Serves as a role model for Pop Warner squad members, and demonstrates appropriate behavior, language, dress, attitude, etc. Team Mom · Determines logistics for snacks for practices and games (parents rotate? Bring your own?). Along with communicating to parents the schedule for games and practices. · Organizes “favors” to be presented to visiting cheer squads (home games only if the squad chooses to do so not mandatory). · Ensures Pop Warner patches are distributed and sewn appropriately on uniforms. · Coordinates car pools for away games, cheer camp, etc. · Arranges for team signs, banners, etc (If squad decides to use them not mandatory). · Coordinates with team parents and leads special projects such as fundraising. · Organizes team events such as “meet and greet” and end of season parties. · Arranges for team or coaches gifts as appropriate.
